Protégé Program

2018 Call For Submissions

For the seventh year, Whitestone Motion Pictures is excited to invite individuals pursuing the art of filmmaking to apply to its Protégé Program.

The Whitestone Protégé program is an intensive one-year elite apprenticeship that requires talent, discipline, consistency, and thick skin. Protégés learn by doing, and most are asked to produce content on a consistent (often weekly) basis. They will also be required to purchase and read books regularly.

Our goal: to teach the things you can’t Google.

Accepted applicants will meet with Brandon McCormick, Writer/Producer/Director for Whitestone Motion Pictures, on a weekly or bi weekly basis in Buford, Georgia.

Protégés must live in the Atlanta area (at their own expense) and be able to attend meetings in Buford. Admission is free, however all the work protégés do will be unpaid and screen credit will be awarded.

This program is not for the faint of heart.

This is not a class. This is not a school. This is boot camp.

You’ll need to take harsh criticism. You’ll need to have a desire to get better at your craft. You’ll need to be able to work with others to accomplish something bigger than yourself.

Hobbyists and casual filmmakers need not apply.

We’ll select only those who show a desire to grow and push themselves beyond the limits of what they thought they were capable of. The Protégé program will not exclusively focus on the technical aspects of filmmaking, anyone can look that stuff up. We’ll also focus on the history, methodology, architecture and mechanics of storytelling. We’ll find out what makes a great story work, and how to tell one of our own. We’ll also focus on leadership skills. The ability to communicate and lead people is an essential and an often overlooked part of filmmaking.

Whitestone is an active and growing film company. Successful protégés become part of the Whitestone community, have access to top leaders, learn and grow in their skill areas, are developed in leadership and self-management, and get to be part of Whitestone’s vision.

Here is what we want to see in addition to an online application:

1    A one-page document on why you want to become a filmmaker and your experiences to date.

2    A demo reel of work done thus far.

3    A detailed description of your technical expertise and experience using equipment: cameras, editing programs, etc.

You can email the above to: proteges@whitestonemotionpictures.com

Don’t be discouraged if you’re still starting out. The whole point of the program is to learn.

Space is limited and the admission process is highly selective.

Deadline for submissions is July 1st, 2018.

Previous applicants are welcome to re-apply by submitting new materials including a new demo reel, an updated one-page document, and updated description of experience.

Now get to it. Don’t procrastinate. Get it done now!
